Embassy of the republic of Korea celebrates Egypt-Korea friendship on Korean National Day

In commemoration of the Korean national day (October 3) and Armed forces Day (October 1) of 2022 which also marks the 27th anniversary of Egypt-Korea diplomatic relations, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Egypt, H.E. Hong Jin-wook hosted a reception on Monday, October 17 at his residence. More than 650 friends of Korea, including the Egyptian government officials, businessmen, journalists and Egyptian citizens, and Koreans in Egypt, joined the reception and witnessed how Egypt-Korea relations have developed at all levels.

Instead of delivering a long speech, Ambassador Hong introduced a video clip which summarized Embassy’s public diplomacy activities which aim to get closer to the Egyptian people, highlighting that Egypt and Korea have enjoyed the best government-to-government cooperation since the establishment of Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership in 2016 when the President El-Sisi paid an official visit to Seoul while the support from each country’s people is crucial for two countries to sustain the excellent relations.

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance who joined this feast along with other governmental officials and businessmen such as H.E Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Health, H.E. Lt. Gen. Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation, Eng. Khalid Nosseir, Chairman of Korea-Egypt Business Council to name a few, mentioned the rapidly expanding bilateral relations especially since President El-Sisi’s visit to Korea in 2016 and the Korean president’s visit to Egypt early this year reaffirming not to spare any of his efforts to attract more Korean investment in Egypt and support them.

Professor Sarah Benjamin and her student Ms. Maya Hani from the Korean language department, Ain Shams University, as representatives of Egyptian citizens, delivered a beautiful speech in Arabic and Korean language. During the speech, Prof. Sara and Ms. Hani mentioned it is remarkable how the Korean and Egyptian cultures have grown closer in the past few years with spread of K-pop, K-drama and Korea/Arab studies. They were proud that Ain Shams University has played a major role in spreading the Korean language in Egypt and underscored that the importance of language in bringing people together.

Participants of this event voiced that it was a great opportunity for both of Egyptian people and Koreans in Egypt to enhance their understanding how the Korean Embassy has tried to get into the heart of Egyptian people and hoped that the Embassy continues to make efforts to deepen the bilateral relations, especially people-to-people exchanges.
